Contest Description:

This is an opportunity to explore New York's food and fiber industries through an integrated approach to today’s educational system. Students can explore deeper into where their food comes from and why agriculture is essential to our lives.

Theme:

Food, Farms, and Me!

Entry Details:

1st Place
  • The contest is open to all New York students in grades Pre-K to 6.
  • Any artistic medium can be used by the students to express their thoughts on the year’s theme including, but not limited to: paintings, poems, narratives, commercials, podcasts, skits, research papers, news articles, photography, drawings, etc.
  • Entries must be original. Creativity is encouraged.
  • Individual or group entries will be accepted.
  • The central focus of the entry could include:
    • Food or fiber in NY
    • Farm to fork
    • Farm to school
    • Agricultural life
    • Urban agriculture
    • Advertising for NY products or farmer’s markets
    • Animals and crops grown in NY
    • And more!
  • An official entry blank MUST be completed and securely attached with tape to the back of the entry. Electronic submissions of artwork should also include a completed entry form and emailed to nyaitc@cornell.edu.
  • All entries will become property of New York Agriculture in the Classroom and will not be returned. We reserve the right to publish the entries in future publications and promotions without additional compensation.

Awards:

  • 1st place for each grade level is awarded $25 to invest in an agricultural product or experience. For group winners, the opportunity should be beneficial to all group members.
  • All awardees (1st. 2nd, 3rd, and Honorable Mentions) receive Certificates of Recognition, along with their work displayed on the NYAITC website.
  • Winning entries will be displayed in the FFA Building during The Great New York State Fair.

This contest is co-sponsored by New York Agriculture in the Classroom, New York Farm Bureau, and New York Farm Bureau Foundation for Education.
