Major Program Accomplishments or Outputs

The Iowa Agriculture Literacy Foundation is the central resource for educators and volunteers who want to teacher students about the breadth and global significance of Iowa agriculture. IALF believes it is important for all Iowans to understand the essential role agriculture has in their lives. IALF supports existing agriculture education efforts such as FFA, 4-H and Ag in the Classroom. IALF was created through a joint effort of agricultural stakeholders, including the Iowa Corn Growers Association, Iowa Farm Bureau Federation, Iowa Pork Producers Association, Iowa Soybean Association, Silos and Smokestacks Foundation, DuPont Pioneer, GROWMARK, and the Iowa Beef Industry Council. IALF maintains a regular blog at iowaagliteracy.wordpress.com. Completed and distributed 42,000 copies of two new issues of a student magazine - Iowa Ag Today. Hosted county coordinators' best practice sharing workshop and training and more than 60 individuals attended. Distribute a quarterly newsletter. 240 teachers applied to for a Teacher Supplement Grant. Taught one sections of an online course, Renewable Energy from Agriculture and the Science of Sustainability. Taught one section of an online course, The Science of Water Quality. Published a book: My Family's Soybean Farm and My Family's Wind Farm. More books are in process for pork and others. Conducted 8 teacher professional development workshops.

Major Program Impacts or Outcomes

95% of county contacts said they would actively promote IALF resources to their schools and contacts. 42,000 fourth grade students received agricultural instruction through the student reader - Ag Today. 1,800 classrooms received copies of the My Family's Farm books. 35,000 seventh grade students received agricultural instruction through the student reader - Ag Today. Average session duration on www.IowaAgLiteracy.org was 2 minutes. A total of 7.9K unique website users and a total of 14K sessions. IALF blog www.iowaagliteracy.wordpress.com received 69,900 views in 2017.

Biosketch

Will Fett is the Executive Director of the Iowa Agriculture Literacy Foundation. He previously worked for the National FFA Foundation in Indianapolis, Ind. and prior to that was an agricultural educator in Montana. He works with a staff of two other full time and two part time employees. He and his staff facilitate the Agriculture in the Classroom program. In this position, he builds partnerships with Iowa agribusiness and individuals to fund the programs and is responsible for the marketing, public relations, and the strategic plan of the organization. wfett@iowaagliteracy.org
