EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING AWARD 2003


Ms. Julie King The 2003 Illinois Ag in the Classroom Teacher of the Year is Julie King of LeRoy , McLean County, Illinois. King is a 2002 Summer Ag Institute attendee and an ardent supporter of Ag in the Classroom. Through her involvement with the McLean County Farm Bureau Women's Committee, ag literacy baskets were created for teachers in McLean county to borrow. Mrs. King is a 1st grade teacher at LeRoy Elementary School where she conducts units on butterflies, corn, popcorn, apples, pumpkins, nutrition, community workers, early Americans, economics, goods and services, and plant & animal habitats. One notable agricultural unit that Mrs. King carries out involves a study of the Nutcracker Ballet and a candy unit called "Short and Sweet."
