Major projects accomplished this year

  • WAIC conducted professional development workshops at local school districts for 129 teachers. WAIC has developed a virtual Internet workshop that was made available to teachers during the spring term 2006. WAIC is in the process of developing a level non-fiction reading library for use in guided reading programs in schools. EnCana Oil and Gas also gave WAIC a $750,000 gift for our endowment fund.

Major impacts the program had this year

  • 95% of the teachers attending WAIC workshops stated that the lessons provided by WAIC assists them in reaching district and state standards.
  • Of the 30 teachers that attended the pre-service workshop, 92% agreed that the lessons were teacher-friendly, easy to incorporate into lesson plans, and would utilize the lessons in their student teaching.
  • Of the teachers that attended our summer workshops, 97% have taught more than seven lessons in their classroom, and 2% have taught between one and seven lessons reaching over 2,400 students with agriculture literacy lessons.
