Major projects accomplished this year
- Virginia AITC conducted 37 training programs throughout Virginia reaching 922 educators and pre-service teachers in 2004-2005.
- Two teachers newsletters were published. The first highlighted the contributions of Virginia Indians to Virginia agriculture. The second newsletter was the first written for and sent to both elementary and middle school teachers in Virginia. The topic was soybeans and renewable fuels.
- More than 1,400 educators registered for the School Garden Project. Teachers receive free seeds and catalogs from Southern States and activities from AITC.
- VA AITC launched its first online course for teachers. The Cell Biology Course is available to teachers on the AITC website at no cost. The course has been endorsed by the Virginia Department of Education.
Major impacts the program had this year
- Through training programs and the School Garden Project, more than 40,700 students were touched by the AITC program.
- 98% of workshop participants ranked the workshop they attended as Excellent or Good on the 2004-2005 evaluations. 89% of those attending thought their perception and understanding changed because of the workshop.
- 93% of teachers evaluating the School Garden Project planted the seeds they received and 100% answered affirmatively to the question, "Would you consider the students' learning a success?"
- There was a 5.5% response on the year-end 2004-2005 evaluations. 80% of those responding said they had used AITC materials during the school year and 96% were planning on using the information the following school year.
