Major projects accomplished this year
Very successful and growing summer workshop - 56 Participants (up 10 from last year)
AITC 07 summer workshop was opened to all formal and informal educators (i.e., school administrators, curriculum coordinators, public and private school teachers, pre-service teachers, retired educators, extension educators, and urban youth educators). Consequently, public and private school teachers, school counselors, cooperative extension educators, and job corps educators all took advantage of this year’s program.
AITC Level II for previous years’ alumni will be held in conjunction with Delaware Valley College’s A-Days (4th Weekend in April 08)
AITC 08 summer workshop will be 3rd week of July (Goal of 64 participants). AITC 08 summer workshop will now include an additional on-farm educational session and a “County Fair” to highlight Ag related educational resources available for teachers. In addition, AITC 08 summer workshop 08 will redouble its showcase of local farms.
Major impacts the program had this year
Agricultural literacy will increase because of participation in PA AITC 07 summer workshop!
- Of the 51 subjects taught by 2007 PA AITC summer workshop participants, Agriculture will now be taught in 49.
- 2007 PA AITC summer workshop participants previously taught 6814 students. These participants will reach now reach 7741 students with information learned at AITC.
- 2007 PA AITC summer workshop participants previously devoted 33 weeks to agricultural concepts (17 participants devoted 0 weeks). 2007 PA AITC summer workshop participants will now devote 78 weeks to information learned at AITC (9 participants will devote entire year, and 0 participants will not devote any weeks).
- 100 % of 2007 PA AITC summer workshop participants would recommend the course to a colleague.
- 83 % of 2007 PA AITC summer workshop participants are interested in attending the AITC II program.
- Pre-tests and post-tests indicate a 20% increase in Agricultural literacy scores for the 2007 PA AITC summer workshop participants (pre-test 68%, post-test 88%)
2007 PA AITC summer workshop participants scored core program competencies as followed (a score of 5 indicated that the competencies were developed very well, and a score of 1 indicated that the competencies were not developed very well):
- Learn to incorporate the proposed PA Environmental & Ecology Standards across the curriculum
