Major projects accomplished this year
  • Our largest project to date has been Get Oregonized and the revisions and printing of the student book and teacher's guide were completed in 2005.
  • We updated the Get Oregonized student history book and printed 4,000 books. New pictures, maps and commodity data are included. The Teacher's Guide was also revised and 300 were printed. At the end of the year, our inventory was 2,600 student books and 183 teacher's guides. The student book was printed in May and the teacher's guide in October.
  • Get Oregonized was written for grades three and four as they study regions of the state and Oregon's history. The text is designed to help students understand and appreciate the rich history, people and natural resources that have shaped Oregon. Get Oregonized highlights various Native American tribes, Lewis and Clark and the fur trapping trade. Also featured are regions of the state and the agricultural contributions to the state's economy.
  • The teacher's guide has 63 activity pages, a student quiz for each chapter and benchmark information. Classroom sets or individual copies can be purchased through the Oregon Agriculture in the Classroom Foundation.
  • We printed our fourth school year calendar with student artwork and daily agricultural facts. 2,050 students from 27 of our 36 counties submitted artwork about Oregon agriculture. We printed 10,000 calendars and have distributed them throughout Oregon.
  • Oregon received a $7,500 ACE Grant to develop and print 10,000 resource directories. Our materials are currently listed on our website and can be ordered online. The printed resource guides will include general program information, descriptions of available resources, details about AITC activities including our elementary calendar contest and contact information for Extension offices and FFA programs.
  • More than 250 people attended our Fall Harvest Dinner, which is our only fundraising event. We raised $25,000 and sold 26 cases of Get Oregonized books.
Major impacts the program had this year
  • AITC materials and lessons were delivered to more than 34,700 students, an increase of 23% in the last year.
  • 75% of our counties participated in our K-6 calendar contest.
