Major projects accomplished this year

Teacher Training
  • ND K-12 teachers learn how to integrate agricultural information into their classes with the Project Food, Land and People (FLP). The workshops include instruction in the “Resources for Learning” materials provided by Project Food, Land & People, as well as tours and additional state specific materials provided by the North Dakota Department of Agriculture, commodities and agriculture organizations. Participants received college credit through North Dakota State University. Over 80 teachers were trained through the Project Food, Land & People workshops in 2004.
  • Teachers (17) participated in Agriculture Industries and Issues tour to raise awareness of the topics other than production agriculture.
  • Council members also conducted pre-service sessions for education majors at the universities to stress the importance of agriculture education.
Student Training
  • 10,000 AgMags were distributed to students along with teachers guides for each issue.
  • 7,000 students participate in field trip programs that introduced them to the commodities raised in the state that provide them with food and fiber. Over 360 teachers also attended and received supporting materials to share in their classroom.
  • 350 students were reached by AgDay activities sponsored by agriculture organizations and classroom teachers.
  • 400 students visited the Agcitement learning lab that offered hands-on experiences at the Yunker Farm Children's Museum in one of our major cities. The learning lab activities were a collaborative effort with the Fargo Public Schools and educators at the museum.
Major impacts the program had this year
  • Agricultural literacy increased among 82 teachers who attended workshops of Project Food, Land and People, plus 300 teachers who attended the state education association convention.
  • 98% of teachers reached by this workshop evaluated the experience at 96% for value and usefulness.
  • Repeatedly we received requests from education professors to provide a pre-service program.
  • 85% of teachers in-serviced this year said they planned to visit our website. Teachers continually request our AgMag resulting in 10,000 4th-grade students receiving agricultural instruction this year through our educational materials and the AgMag.
  • 50% of K-12 teachers integrated agricultural information into science, social studies, math, language arts and other classes as a result of agricultural instruction received this year through our state AITC.
  • 2,477 students received agriculture education by way of a new grant program that served schools and communities.
