Major projects accomplished this year
- Nearly 100 volunteers attended AITC committee training.
- IFBF staff conducted AITC presentations to 624 students at seven community colleges/universities.
- Beginning to see a transition in counties to targeting educators as opposed to conducting classroom presentation. In doing so, volunteers are beginning to understand the relevance of educational standards.
- Numerous in-services were conducted around the state to educate teachers and school officials about the importance of education and the resources available.
- Teachers' Supplement Program: More than 293 teachers received funding through the Iowa Farm Bureau Teachers' Supplement Program. A total of $50,000 was granted. Applications surpassed budget allocation.
- 66 counties set goals in the Ag Education program area.
- Teachers' Academies were conducted in three locations in Iowa. A total of 98 teachers attended.
- Over 200 requests for AITC resources were distributed to educators, students and volunteers.
- Farm Bureau's Ag in the Classroom program sponsored tradeshow booths at a variety of agricultural/educational industry tradeshows. Such events included the science teachers, Iowa School Board Association, ag teachers, IFBF Annual Meeting, AFBF Annual Convention, AFBF Promotion and Education Conference and Iowa Children's Water Festival.
- Correlated two ISU Extension Curricula (Where We Live and Growing in the Garden) to the Iowa Test of Basic Skills.
Major impacts the program had this year
- 93% of the teachers who participated in the 2005 Teachers' Academy have incorporated agriculture into their classroom.
