Monsanto Outreach Grant
National AITC Consortium Monsanto Outreach For Agriculture Grant Program
At the 2004 National AITC Conference, a unique program was announced as a joint venture between Monsanto and the National AITC Consortium. Monsanto, with a clear commitment to Agriculture Literacy, granted the National AITC Consortium $50,000 to be used for grants to State AITC Program over the next 3 years. Today, we announce the 2006 winners of this grant program. We are pleased to work with Monsanto Representatives Kerry Preete, Vice President US Crop Production; Julie Doane, US Customer Outreach Lead and Ron Bumb, East Coast Area Sales Manager.

"Commodity Fact and Activity Sheet”
This project will create a new resource in the form of a fact/activity sheet featuring corn or another California commodity which has been directly associated with biotechnology. This project will be a factual, unbiased piece that uniquely shows and provides examples of factual information and how it can be incorporated into teaching and encouraging students. The end result will allow students to think critically, creatively and freely about the viability and ethics associated with biotechnology, genetically modified organisms and agriculture.

"Biotechnology Curriculum Development”
Our goal for this project is to reach over 7,600 students and 400 teachers annually with hands-on, innovative lessons that advance the topic of biotechnology and its role in agriculture and student's lives. Three biotechnology lessons will be packaged in easy to carry totes which could be modified for use by volunteers in the agricultural community, education system, and youth organizations. These lessons will provide an innovative, educational program to civic organizations and other public venues alike.

"Photosynthesis Promenade”
This is a learning activity designed to help elementary children understand and appreciate the process of photosynthesis. The activity utilizes multiple learning modalities as it allows the students to see, hear, and move through a simulation of photosynthesis. Each “step” of the process is a dance step with accompanying lyrics. Props and costumes help dancers and members of the audience identify the key components needed to facilitate photosynthesis.
