Get Oregonized student history book and the Teacher's Guide
Bring A Classroom to Life! (Guide to Presentations)
Major Program Accomplishments
We updated and printed Get Oregonized and the accompanying Teacher's Guide. Get Oregonized is a history book
written for grade four as students study Oregon's history. The text is designed to help students understand and
appreciate the rich history, people and natural resources that shaped the state of Oregon. The book includes maps,
illustrations, graphs as well as modern and historical photographs that compliment the easy to read and understand
text.
The new, 2007, version of Get Oregonized has a new section on berries and hazelnuts, an updated forestry
section, more color pages and several new historical and modern pictures.
Completed a Bring a Classroom to Life! project. We developed this teaching guide to offer guidance, resources and
a lesson plan layout for high school students with a desire to educate elementary school students. It meets several
Career Related Learning Standards and helps students complete needed community service hours or Senior
Project requirements. It's a 12 page binder with information on how to contact the school, select a lesson, organize
the lesson, tips for teaching, reflection, highlighted AITC resources and materials and a sample lesson.
We printed our sixth school year calendar with student artwork and daily agricultural facts. We received 1,500
entries from students in 24 of our 36 counties submitted artwork about Oregon agriculture. We printed 10,000
calendars and are distributing them throughout Oregon.
Nearly 350 people attended our Fall Harvest Dinner, which is our only fundraising event. We raised more than
$48,000 and sold 58 cases of Get Oregonized books that will be donated to schools throughout the state.
Thanks to ACE grant funding, we had more teacher trainings in 2007. We worked with the Oregon Department of
Education and made a presentation to their Learn & Serve groups from 13 school districts across the state with 50
teachers participating.
Major Program Impacts
AITC materials and lessons were delivered to more than 63,500 students, an increase of 30% from the previous
year.
67% of Oregon counties participated in our K-6 calendar contest.
