Major projects accomplished this year

  • Offered five two-day summer workshops for science, family and consumer science and agricultural education teachers. Each received a Food Science/Food Safety curriculum for their classroom and other resources related to this topic.
  • Continued to expand the elementary pr-service presentations to 12 colleges and universities across the state. This year some of the presentations were for middle level teachers.
  • Co-hosted in-service presentations with the State Department of Education to distribute the CD, Growing a Nation.
  • Presentations at Agricultural Festivals reached over 1500 students.
  • Ag Pen Pals Program has been expanded to all school districts in the state. This year we have 255 farm/ranch families corresponding with the same number of classrooms.
  • Our Endowment Fund had more contributors this year. We are trying to reach our goal of $100,000.

Major impacts the program had this year

  • 110 science, family and consumer science and agricultural education teachers participated in the summer workshops and are using the Food Science/Food Safety curriculum in their classrooms.
  • 100% of the teachers in the Ag Pen Pal Program in their survey indicated their students gained knowledge about agriculture—where their food comes from.
  • 325 social studies and agricultural education teacher received instruction on the use of the CD, Growing a Nation.
