Classroom Resources

As host state for the 2010 National ag in the Classroom Conferencemuch of our staff time and energies were focused on conference planning and execution. We did, however, publish an collection of lessons from across the nation calledHarvest of the Best" which is available from the National Ag in the Classroom Consortium.

The Maryland Commodity map was updated using the statistical data collected during the 2008 Census of Agriculture.

Curriculum was written for middle school summer camps planned for regional community colleges. One school held a horticultural camp and another an Ag Business camp.

Major Program Impacts or Outcomes

More than 35,000 Marylanders were exposed to agriculture using the Maryland Agriculture Showcase.

The three mobile science labs served over 45,000 student visits while spending a week in 72 schools.

Over 800 students were reached through the Ag Returns to the City program and 16 Urban Garden Grants were awarded with a total value of nearly $6,000.00.

Professional development was given to 99 urban teachers, who have the potential to teach 11,267 students on the importance of agriculture.

Pre-service training was provided to students.

The Summer AITC Teacher workshop was postponed this year due to hosting the 2010 National Ag in the Classroom conference with over 380 registrants from across the nation.
