Classroom Resources
We created a Kansas Educator Guide for Natural Resources. This 220 page guide is meant to provide
information to teachers about Kansas biomes, water resources, crops, plants and wildlife species and their
interaction with and connection to natural resources. It is designed for 5th grade students and teachers. It
is available in hard copy upon request.
Major Program Accomplishments
Assembly Program
Grade 1-2 Kansas Animals
Grade 3-4 Crops & Oil Seeds
Grade 5-6 Natural Resources
For the 2007-2008 school year (October April)
46 Assemblies will be presented to 31 schools in Kansas reaching approximately 3621 students grades K-6. This
number is up from 12 in 2006. Support materials are provided to encourage continued learning after the
assemblies.
We filled requests from 238 teachers for Farm Animals Educator Guides and 264 for Crops Educator Guides.
We filled requests for 5450 KKC Crops magazines and 5275 Farm Animals Magazines. We sent 11,700 Kansas
Kids Connections Magazines (both crops and animal) to schools grades K-4.
437 teachers, 165 Legislators, 105 NRCS/Conservation Districts will receive the new Natural Resources Teachers
Guide in March of 2007.
Ag-Wise Train the Trainer Workshop
A Partnership Training between Kansas Farm Bureau and KFAC for Ag In the Classroom presenters at the County
Level had 102 participants in January and February of 2008.
Participants received training for a variety of Ag-based hands-on learning labs; receive resource materials: shared
ideas that work; practiced presentation skills; networked with others.
Who attended? County Farm Bureau Ag Ed. Volunteers; Ag Educators, Extension Educators and Volunteers,
Youth Volunteers, Conservation District Managers.
Summer Session Courses
49 Kansas Teachers received three graduate credit hours after attending week long summer session courses:
Connecting Agriculture to the Classroom; Exploring Internet Resources; Connecting Agriculture to the Classroom;
Horticulture & School Gardens Olathe
Agri-Tag
Since January 2007 we have 287 Agri-tags on the road, generating slightly over $7000 in income.
Major Program Impacts
See above. We will be measuring impact this next year with surveys for teachers and students on their use of the
Educator Guides and Kansas Kid Connection Magazines as well as information provided by assemblies.
Our surveys following our summer school courses indicate teachers found the training valuable. Each teacher
generated high quality lesson plans as a part of their coursework. These were reviewed by their professors and the
best were chosen to be featured on our website under teacher-generated lesson plans.
