Hopeful Harvest, a history of Alaska agriculture, is completely finished at last, along with a companion DVD of lesson plans. It is designed for middle to high school use. The video can be seen at http://www.alaskafb.org/~akaitc/HopefulHarvest-movie.html
We have have also reorganized our K=12 Lesson Plan and Activity CD to better reflect standards and focuses by grade level, as well as adding about 20 lessons to the CD.
Completing Hopeful Harvest DVDs, despite setbacks.
Trained 20 teachers during two, three-day ag educator institutes. Attendees were enthusiastic and excited about the program.
Interacted with state legislators to raise awareness of the AITC program and develop interaction with about 6 specific lawmakers.
Participated in two new groups to improve ag literacy outreach to teachers.
Generated another 30-plus lesson plans on Alaska agriculture through the efforts of trained teachers completing their for-credit course work.
Elevated success of Alaska Agriculture Day (first Tuesday of May) with major outreach efforts in three distinct areas of the state, and other smaller efforts in other areas.
Associate degree in Natural Resources Technology; Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture and Natural Resources Communications; 28 years of experience in journalism and public relations; five years of experience substitute teaching; executive director of Alaska AITC since 1998.
